Basketcase Nails...

Hey Dolls!

I have massively been neglecting my nails recently so I thought that I would remedy the situation with a bit of nail art.  I am pretty bored of the leopard print design and thought that I would see if there was something else that would appeal to me.  As usual I had a browse of the WAH site (here) for inspiration. If you are bored of the same old colours and nail art I would completely recommend checking it out, there are some amazing ideas on there which can easily be replicated.

As I was looking through the different pics I came across a picture of stripe design called 'basketcase'.  The original picture (below my attempt) is gold with a blue stripe but as I had neither gold nor blue I thought I would just pick two of my colours at random.  I also came across a picture of Paloma Faith sporting WAH's basketcase design, her stripes are horizontal as opposed to diagonal, which in hindsight would have been easier to paint on, but I didn't see this till after I had already done one hand, annoying.

I just used a small paintbrush to paint on the stripes but I am there is probably a way to get a better line (by using tape or a stencil).  If you are going to do it freehand like me I would also say that this design is not for those who are wobbly of hand! My left hand isn't 'too' bad but its not perfect.

Here and below, Paloma Faith sporting the look.

Hope that you like! Also, does anyone have any suggestions for nail art patterns that I could try?  Nothing too difficult!

Good morning Graduation...

Hey Dolls!

I graduated yesterday! I am now the proud owner of a first class LLB hons in law, who would have thought it?!  Luckily the rain held off till the afternoon so we were able to get some pictures outside, which is great considering I look horrendous in the professional one that we had taken (which you can guarantee will be the one that my parents give to everyone).

I had an absolute nightmare trying to decide what to wear to graduation.  I even embarked on a last minute online shopping spree at ASOS but I felt that what I ordered still wasn't appropriate!  In the end I went for a black, very lightly pinstriped dress that I already had from New Look.  You can't really see from the photos but it has cute shoulder ruffles and a little bow brooch on it.  Its one of those dresses that  fits me really well and I thought black is probably the best route.

However, wearing the dress makes wearing the gown a nightmare!  They weren't kidding when they suggested that you wear a top button shirt, as this is what actually holds the hood down at the front.  Because I didn't have a button I was essentially being slowly strangled all day.

My tip if you have a graduation coming up is remember to bring some pins!

I got to have ya like acabadabra...

Hey Dolls!

Just a quick OOTN post!  I didn't take many pictures and this is the only one that I half liked (hence why there is just the one).  I brought the shorts a little while ago for my holiday and thought what the hell, I've got a bit of a tan, why not just wear them now!  They are so cute, they have little white bows all over them!  I also realised that I was doing pretty well on the low cost outfit front with the shoes costing £25, the shirt costing £10, the shorts costing £15 and the necklace costing under £7! Ok the bag and watch may be another story but they are classics you can wear with anything so I'm pretty sure they don't count...

No idea why this has turned out so grainy, I played with my camera and seem to have broken it...

FOTD using Urban Decay's Naked Palette...

Hey Dolls!

So much seems to have happened recently that I have found it really hard to blog with any regularity.  I have been on an internship at a marketing firm and on holiday (though for some reason I look seriously pale in these photos!).  Also, after literally months of sleepless nights (this is no joke, I woke up in a panic that I had failed most nights) I finally got my degree classification.  I can happily say that all the hard work paid off and I somehow managed to get a first class honours in law!  Probably the biggest shock of my life, and I actually managed to pull a muscle in my leg from all the jumping up and down!

I have seriously missed blogging though, not that I have really been away that long, but still its good to actually post something up and have a read of all the blogs that I follow.  However, I am so horrendously poor at the moment, so am having to cut back on what I spend.  I have been really lucky and the whole time through uni I had savings, but, after my deposit on the flat in London they have finally run out.  So, I have decided to try and make use of the masses of make-up/clothes/shoes that I actually have (some of which I have never used/worn - naughty).  In the spirit of this I thought that I would do FOTD using Urban Decay's Naked Palette which I have had for a while.

When the Naked Palette first came out I couldn't get my hands on it fast enough and it sold out everywhere - for good reason!  The thing is amazing!  As I remember it cost me something like £32 and for that you get 12 eyeshadows, a brush and a mini eyeshadow primer.  The eyeshadows are long lasting and go on so smoothly, no cakey or flakey consistencies here!  Although it is a neutral palette the range of shadows means its perfectly capable of creating different looks.  I would completely recommend getting one, its one product that actually lives up to the hype.

Its like gold dust...

Hey Dolls!

I have been away for so long! I never expected that the last year of uni would be so manic and between coursework, my dissertation and exams I had so little time to do anything!  Thankfully its all over now and it feels so nice to get back to blogging!

I thought I would do a quick nail tutorial as I haven't done one in a while.  The end result kind of looks like you have gold dust on your nails.  Hope you like!

These girls fall like dominos...

Top: H&M
Trousers: Topshop
Belt: ASOS
Shoes: Miu Miu
Bag: Topshop
Ring: ASOS double finger cross ring

I really wanted a pair of peg leg trousers and spent an age searching for some.  My problem is I have really wide hips but quite thin legs and every pair that I tried on made me look like I was wearing clown pants! I finally found some in Topshop, I think these ones actually suit me as they are high waisted and draw attention away from my hips!

I wore them with my Miu Miu shoes which I brought on a whim from Net-a-porter a couple of years ago.  I adore them but I have to admit they are crippling.  I have no idea how such a beautiful pair of shoes can cause such utter pain when I have shoes which are far higher and are actually comfortable.  Beauty over pain I suppose!  I will have to  do a close up of the heel on these shoes at some point as they are amazing.

I have gotten over the flu and now really need to concentrate on revision for my finals.  As usual I am lacking in motivation and will do anything to avoid it.  This basically means I have been blog stalking and watching episodes of TOWIE over and over again.

Just a short post, as I suppose I had actually better do some work today!

Turn up the lights in here baby...

Top: H&M
Skirt: ASOS
Belt: ASOS
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

I have wanted a pleated maxi skirt for ages and when I saw this one on ASOS I knew I had to have it, however, I wasn't quite prepared for just how orange it would be and I am not sure whether I should keep it or not?  I know that its ridiculously popular - it sold out in about 30 seconds flat and this colour isn't even listed on the website anymore (but if you like the style you can still get it in black here) - but I'm not sure if its very 'me'.  Mind you, since colour blocking is the new trend (how far I can get involved in this since my wardrobe is completely black I don't know...) maybe I should hang on to it!  I decided to parade about in with my Jessica Simpson Dany platforms which are not actually that uncomfortable considering I am practically walking around with tower blocks on my feet.

In other news I am so dreadfully ill.  I still have an absolute mountain of work to do but I can't even seem to look at a page for more than a minute without the spaces between the words becoming swirly patterns.  Urgh I hate it! I am never ill! I'm not letting it stop me blogging, though I am not loving the pictures that are resulting from my germ filled cloud, especially that last one - I look horrific, but I thought that its always helpful to see what something looks like front on.

Should I keep the orange skirt? Also has anyone by any chance seen a nude pleated maxi skirt? I quite fancy purchasing one!

Someone like you...

Blouse: River Island
Shorts: Topshop
Belt: ASOS
Socks: New Look
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Dany platforms

I am finally back! Handed in my dissertation on Friday, what an absolute stress that was.  Had such a great weekend of freedom but perhaps overdid it a bit as I now have the flu, winner.

Whilst I was on a blogging hiatus I got my Jessica Simpson Dany platforms through.  I think these are a bit like marmite, either you love them or you hate them.  I love them but not sure if I can quite pull them off.  I'm going to keep them though as I ordered them from the US and think that it would probably cost about £20 to ship them back, considering I paid about that much to ship them over here then that would literally be £40 down the drain with nothing to show for it.  If you're like me and like these type of shoes but don't want to go through the palava of getting them from the US, ASOS have got some that are identical new in this season.  They haven't dropped yet and I am not sure if you can get them in black (as only tan is shown) but I am pretty sure that they will fly out.  If you want to check them out they are on page 28 of the ASOS magazine (here). What do you think of the high wooden platforms? Your cup of tea?

On a side note, genuinely can't get enough of The Only Way is Essex.  I live in London now but I am originally from Essex and my parents and boyfriend don't live very far from where its filmed., I used to even  go to the Sugar Hut before it burnt down a few years ago.  You would think that I would probably not be too bothered about it considering this, but its like compulsive viewing.  If there was some sort of live feed I would probably watch it all day!  Arg makes me laugh so much!

Another Crack in My Heart

 Models Own Bloo Bloo
Barry M's Crackle varnish

The title of this post is actually a Take That track which I randomly thought of whilst I was painting my nails  - thanks boys!

Back on to the actual topic of this post, crackle varnish.  I have to say I have been so slow in jumping on the bandwagon with this, but I am glad I finally did!  I love nail art and to be honest I haven't always got the time to sit there and paint leopard print on (like I did here), or zebra stripes (like here).  Its nice to just slap on a coat of this and watch the magic happen!

I have a couple of tips which may be useful to those who have/want the crackle polish:

1. Patience is a virtue! Make sure you wait until your chosen base colour coat is completely dry before you paint on the crackle glaze.  If its still a bit tacky you tend to get less crackle effect and more huge separated chunks of black (see my thumbnail).

2. For a better crackle effect blow on your nails whilst the polish is drying.  I have tested it out a few times and I find that if I blow on it the finished effect is better for some unknown reason.  Has anyone else found this?  Or got any more tips involving crackle polish?

I am massively looking forward to Models Own new line of 'Smash-up' crackle polishes!

The darker blue colour really appeals to me and so does the purple. Decisions, decisions!  According to the Models Own blog (here) they are being released in Boots from the 20th of April, can't wait!

Rimmel Volume Flash x10 Mascara Review (before and after)...

I picked up this mascara on a whim really. When Maybelline's 'The Falsies' Volume Express mascara was released I jumped straight on the bandwagon and thought that it was pretty great to be honest.  I finally had to concede that my latest one had dried out beyond all use (quite rapidly in my opinion), so I needed a new one.  However, I had no time to go into town and was fully aware that I needed to get a new one there and then as I was going out at the weekend.  I literally just legged it down to the chemist around the corner to find that the only make-up brand they sold in there was Rimmel so I grabbed the cheapest one I could see which turned out to be Rimmel's Volume Flash 'X10' mascara for £5.99.

I have to say that after using this now for a couple of months, Maybelline is out and Rimmel is most definately in!

Like 'The Falsies' it too has a curved brush, which I massively prefer as it makes it so much easier to apply.  In my opinion it dries out far less quickly than 'The Falsies' and I don't get any of those little bits that drop off under your eye (that when you wipe they create black lines across your face - anyone else get these?!).  Anyway I think its volumising and lengthening qualities are brilliant, quite possibly the best that I personally have ever experienced from a mascara.  Here are some pics so you can see the difference for yourselves:

Before: As you can see I have very small (non-existent), wispy eyelashes which are a challenge for any mascara to make presentable!

After: Massive volume and length! I have put on a couple of coats of the mascara just using the curved wand that it comes with.  I haven't used eyelash curlers or a brush to separate.  I have included another picture below so you can see what it looks like from a bit further away.  Gives a better indication of the effects I think.

I thought that I would do this post as so many people have asked me about my mascara since I changed to using this one.  I personally think its great and the fact that it only costs £5.99 is such a bonus!

In case anyone wants to know the eyeliner that I use is also Rimmel (Black Exaggerate liquid eyeliner).

Does anyone else use this mascara? What do you think of it? Is there some magical mascara that makes your eyelashes look amazing that I haven't come across yet?

Eat, Pray, Love...

No I'm not talking about the film or the book, I am in fact talking about Model's Own 'Pray' nail varnish, a dusky brown that kind of reminds me of hot chocolate.

My Model's Own collection is growing by the day it seems.  As a once devout follower of OPI I decided to broaden my horizons this year and try out different nail varnish brands.  One of the main reasons being  that OPI is rather expensive and because of this I can't keep up with all the new colours!

It has been quite a close call between Barry M and Models Own, but models Own have just pipped it with their wide variety of colours, fun blog (here) and by remaining chip free slightly longer.

The nail varnish formula goes on smoothly and you could probably get away with one coat with this one (if you are in a rush) but two gives you a strong opaque.  One other thing I will say about Models Own nail varnish is the toxic fume type of smell you get whilst painting your nails is not as strong as other nail varnish brands, which is always a bonus in my books.

So eat your dinner, paint on a couple of coats of Pray and love the results!
